Deputy Mayor Danilo Šaranović met today with representatives of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, with whom he discussed projects of importance for the ecological development of Podgorica, as well as the necessity of further work on developing awareness of the importance of this topic.

Šaranović pointed out that for the city administration, long-term sustainability and care for the environment are top priorities, and that the Capital City Podgorica will, within the limits of its capacities, support all projects that will strengthen the perspective of the ecological development of our city.

The Director General of the Directorate for Ecology and Climate Change, Kemal Grbović, presented the circumstances we face when it comes to this topic and emphasized the importance of dedicated work in order to overcome the existing challenges.

The Deputy mayor emphasized the special importance of the environmental issue in relation to Montenegro’s accession negotiations with the European Union and chapter 27, which is one of the most complex areas in terms of EU legislation and universal normative and technical-technological standards.

The interlocutors agreed on the importance of harmonizing legislation at the state and local level, as well as cooperation with local self-governments, and revising the penal policy in order to raise the awareness of companies and individuals. The meeting also discussed the importance of primary selection and proper collection of waste, as well as the recycling process that should be improved in the coming period, and the Wastewater Collection and Purification Project was highlighted as the most important project at the level of the Capital City Podgorica.
